Number portability keeps the phone number you already have and moves it onto a new SIM or eSIM. You change how you get data and calls without giving up your number.
What you need before you apply
- Your identity document, or the prepaid card-owner certificate if the number is a prepaid card registered to someone else.
- A photo of the SIM barcode side of the SIM you are porting in, with the ICCID clearly readable.
- To apply at least 7 working days before your current contract expires. Our carrier's guidance: whether a port succeeds is only known on the porting day, so applying with room to spare leaves time for a second attempt if it is rejected.
How the port works
- Submit the port-in form with your details and the two documents above.
- We prepare your application on the carrier's own application form and send it to the carrier.
- Your number moves on the porting day.
Two things people get wrong
- A Lucky2 plan cannot be ported. Porting in is a LuckySIM service, and a Lucky2 plan has no matching entry on the carrier's port-in form.
- Do not send identity documents by messaging app. We do not accept identity documents by WhatsApp or any other messaging app. Use the upload on the form.
Why we ask for your identity document
SIM registration is a statutory real-name requirement in Hong Kong, and the carrier requires the document with a port-in application. That is the basis on which we ask for it.
Number porting questions
Can I port a Lucky2 plan to LuckySIM?
No. Porting in is a LuckySIM service. A Lucky2 plan has no matching entry on the carrier's port-in form, so a Lucky2 plan cannot be ported.
How early should I apply before my contract expires?
Our carrier's guidance is at least 7 working days before the number's contract expires. Whether a port succeeds is only known on the porting day, so applying early leaves time for a second attempt if the first is rejected.
Which documents does the port-in need?
Two: your identity document (or the prepaid card-owner certificate), and the SIM barcode side of the SIM you are porting in with the ICCID clearly visible. Both are carrier requirements.
Can I send my ID card photo on WhatsApp?
No. We do not accept identity documents by WhatsApp or any other messaging app. Use the upload on the port-in form.
Do I lose my number if the port is rejected?
No. A rejected application leaves the number with your current provider. That is why the carrier advises applying with time to spare, so a second attempt can be made.
