eSIM installed but no internet?

Quick answer

Turn on Data Roaming for the Uncle Sim eSIM, check the APN setting, then restart the phone fully. Those three fix the large majority of cases, and each has its own section below.

If the eSIM is installed but nothing loads, it is almost always one of three settings. Work through them in order. It takes about three minutes.

Step 1: turn on Data Roaming

iPhone

Settings->Cellular->your Uncle Sim eSIM-> turnData Roamingon.

Android

Settings->Connections->Mobile networks-> turnData roamingon.

This is the single most common cause, and it costs nothing to check.

Step 2: leave the APN on automatic

Our supplier's own documentation says most of their network settings are automatic, and that manually editing them is not recommended. So the correct first move is to leave it alone.

Only if you have been asked to set it by hand, these are the values:

  • LuckySIM and Lucky2 plans:mobile(normally set automatically)
  • Worldmove roaming plans:mobile.three.com.hk
A small number of destinations use a different network setting, and the operator can change it at any time. If your plan needs a specific value, we will tell you with your order. Do not guess and do not copy a value from another plan.

iPhone

Settings->Cellular->your eSIM->Cellular Data Network.

Android

Settings->Connections->Mobile networks->Access Point Names.

Step 3: restart the phone

Switch it fully off, wait ten seconds, switch it back on. The eSIM re-registers with the network when it boots.

Questions we get asked

Why does it work on Wi-Fi but not on mobile data?

That points at Data Roaming being off, or the eSIM not being the line selected for mobile data. Check both.

My home SIM is still in the phone, is that a problem?

No, but make sure the Uncle Sim eSIM is the line set for mobile data, not your home SIM.

What is the APN for these plans?

Most are set automatically. LuckySIM and Lucky2 use mobile. Worldmove roaming plans use mobile.three.com.hk. Leave it on automatic unless we tell you otherwise.
